FAQ

ALL ABOUT SOY

Why Soy?

Soy wax is a natural product produced from the soy bean. In comparison, paraffin is made from petroleum oil. Soy wax candles provide a cleaner burn and does not produce potentially harmful by-products. It is also a completely renewable resource.

My soy candle has a white discoloration, why?

This is called "frosting" and naturally occurs with soy candles. This frosting does not affect the candle's burn or scent.

How long can I burn my soy candle?

Do not burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Burning longer can cause carbon build-up on the wick, which can lead to a larger flame, an over-heated vessel, which is a fire hazard.

How do I care for my soy candle?

Be sure to trim your wick prior to each use. You should try the wick down to 1/4" before each use. This helps your candle burn more evenly. Read the warning label on your candle.

How is soy wax made?

Soy wax is made from the oil of soybeans through the process of hydrogenation. After harvesting, the beans are cleaned, cracked, and de-husked. Afterwards, the beans are rolled into flakes. The oil is then extracted from the flakes and hydrogenated.

The hydrogenation process alters the melting point of the wax and allows it be solid at room temperature. The leftover bean husks are commonly used as animal feed.

Candle Pourings

Can I reuse my candle jar from a pouring?

Yes! If you came in for a pouring and used an upgraded vessel (9 oz +), you can bring in your cleaned vessel for another pouring and get $5 OFF!

How many people can I book a candle pouring for?

The current maximum is 8 people.

Can I bring in my own vessel/jar?

No. We test our jars using our available scents. Outside vessels have not been tested by us, and are not allowed. Testing is important in determining wick size, and how a candle burns.

Can I bring in wine or food?

The Studio is BYOB. Lite fare can be brought in, but should not be eaten at the candle making bar. You must bring in any supplies needed, and be mindful that the pouring is scheduled for 1-hour and the appointment starts at the scheduled time, and not the arrival time.
